Description

Brill is a meaty flat fish very similar to a Turbot. It has a dark mottled appearance, although the colour is variable, with small smooth scales.

Known for its sweet taste and firm texture, Brill is particularly delicious when pan fried or grilled and is similar in taste and appearance to Turbot.

So fresh and delicious

The Brill was so fresh delicious, we had it grilled with a little oil, butter and lemon juice, exquisite. Will definitely buy again, such a treat.

Superb brill

S&J's fish is invariably good but this Brill was just excellent. Ours was filleted with the skin on (which they do very well). Seasoned and pan-fried in olive oil and butter for a few minutes over a medium-hot heat, it was succulent, meaty (and bone-free!) with a really pleasant mild flavour. If you like plaice, this is a great alternative. More expensive, perhaps but worth every penny.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! All of our fresh fish is 100% that - has never been frozen and you are completely safe and fine to do so. We actually recommend doing this as soon as you know you won't eat all of your fish to give maximum life to it when you choose to defrost.

All of our products come with a best before date on. Our fresh fish is usually between 3-4 days before we recommend freezing it. Frozen products will often have up to 12 months best before. Just ask us if you're unsure.

We mainly buy our fish from Brixham fish market - since the closure of Plymouth earlier last year. We also have a specially selected d list of trusted suppliers we buy our farmed and exotic species from.

Yes! We encourage you to do just that - if you really want your fish a particular way, or if you're ordering a box but hate a certain species - just tell us! We will do our best to accommodate your every request.
